Chocolate Festival in Ventura County to aid orphans.

If you ever needed a reason to eat chocolate, the first annual Ventura County Chocolate Festival has a sweet one: proceeds from the event will provide humanitarian aid to children living in Russia. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the festival will feature more than 100 chocolate-related vendors, live entertainment, recipe contests, a chocolate pie-eating contest, raffles and more.

The event is the first of its kind in the Ventura area not only to put chocolate in the spotlight but also to raise money for such an important cause. Steve Cagan, the Ventura County Chocolate Festival Event Coordinator and Executive Director of the Restoring Hope Foundation of Southern California, said there’s no better way “to open our hearts to children who need our help than by incorporating something everyone loves; chocolate.”

With 20 thousand attendees expected to visit the festival, there is great potential for Restoring Hope to deliver medical and humanitarian aid to children living in impoverished conditions with the lingering consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident two decades ago.

The two-day event will feature a number of live music act including blues aficionados The Preachers and local rock grrl Teresa Russell with Cocobili as well as a fencing demonstration and other entertainment.
